Farmers in arid areas reap big from sorghum farming | The PeopleThe People

East Africa Breweries Ltd in partnership with European Cooperative for Rural Development and other stakeholders have enabled farmers living in arid and semi arid areas of the country reap from growing sorghum as a cash crop.

In Makueni County small-scale farmers growing gadam sorghum that is used by the brewer to produce low cost beer, have a reason to smile since the introduction of the crop in the area three years ago. According to one of the beneficiary, Cecilia Kyalo, who took the initiative to move from planting maize and beans to sorghum in 2010, said many people in the county have benefitted from the wonder crop.
