Funds will help build sweet sorghum business

Matthew Heckemeyer looks over the flywheel of the gear box for what will soon be one of the largest — if not the largest — sorghum mills operating in the country.

The Heckemeyers know what they will do with this grant money: sweeten the deal.

The Missouri Department of Agriculture has announced that $24,000 from the Missouri Value-Added Grant Program to help build up a sweet sorghum business was awarded to Heckemeyer Farms of Sikeston.

But the name Heckemeyer Farms is really about the past while what is taking place on Wolfhole Farm is what they hope will be the future.
